OVERVIEW

Maven Baseball is an Atlanta-based sports tech company on a mission to give athletes clarity on where they stand and a pathway to maximize their potential. Our Maven Labs combine 3D motion capture, force plates, computer vision and Maven's proprietary algorithms to analyze a player's swing or delivery in just 12 reps, producing personalized Maven Scores and data-driven training plans delivered through the Maven app. Professional and College teams as well as elite training facilities across the country already rely on Maven.

Next up is bringing the same insight that elite programs use to the millions of amateur players and families who've never had access to it, and taking Maven into new sports. We're a small team of athletes, engineers and builders who do a lot with a little, move fast and own the result. If you want to help build a company, not just join one, this is your shot.

Maven Baseball seeks an experienced, highly-motivated Controller to own Maven's financial accounting and financial modeling on a part-time basis (approximately 20 hours per week, flexible schedule). This position is responsible for keeping Maven's books accurate and audit-ready, running a disciplined monthly close, and building the financial models leadership and the Board use to make decisions. You'll report to the Chief Operating Officer and be Maven's first dedicated finance hire, so you'll help set up the processes that scale with us. Career returners and experienced professionals seeking a reduced schedule are encouraged to apply.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
•

Own the general ledger and run a timely monthly close: reconciliations, accruals, prepaid and deferred revenue, and fixed asset depreciation for Maven Labs.

•

Manage billing and collections for lab partner agreements, assessment revenue and app subscriptions.

•

Calculate revenue shares, commissions and contractor payments under Maven's partner and independent contractor agreements.

•

Oversee payroll, benefits and 1099 processing with our outside providers.

•

Prepare monthly financial statements and Board-ready financial reporting with clear variance commentary.

•

Build and maintain Maven's financial model: annual budget, cash flow and runway forecasts, lab unit economics, and pricing and membership scenarios.

•

Track company performance against the financial and subscriber goals that drive Maven's bonus and long-term incentive programs.

•

Partner with our outside CPA on tax filings and support financial due diligence for partnerships and fundraising.

•

Set up and improve internal controls, systems and processes as Maven grows.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
•

Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or a related field; CPA preferred.

•

5+ years of accounting experience, ideally including public accounting (audit or advisory) and/or a controller or senior accountant role. Experience need not be recent; we value depth and judgment.

•

Strong command of GAAP, including revenue recognition, fixed assets and month-end close.

•

Advanced Excel or Google Sheets skills and experience building forward-looking financial models (budgets, forecasts, scenario analysis).

•

Comfort with cloud accounting, payroll and expense software, and a willingness to learn new tools quickly.

•

Ability to work independently, set your own priorities and get it right without close supervision.

•

Ability to clearly explain financial results to non-finance teammates and the Board.

•

Startup, subscription business or sports industry experience is a plus.
